The Newtown Creek Coalition has been named a winner of the 2019 Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. This was for the Project that restored the Newtown Common and Creek. The streambank stabilization project included coir logs, rain gardens, porous pavement with volunteers planting trees, shrubs and grasses. This helped the borough to meet it’s sediment and nutrient pollutant reduction goals.
NCC President Julia Woldorf accepted the award at the dinner held recently. Thank you, Julia, for all your hard work in applying for the grant and coordinating the project.
